Inflammasome Activation Stays Suppressed in Long-Lived Species—Not Just Inflammation
Mechanism: In long-lived species, enhanced mitophagy and ROS detoxification prevent mitochondrial damage, thus suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Readout: Readout: This leads to minimal release of inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18, maintaining a low 'Inflammation Score' and a high 'Lifespan Bar'.
NLRP3 inflammasome activation increases with age in mammals, driving IL-1β and IL-18 release. Long-lived species show minimal inflammasome activation despite age. The mechanism may be enhanced mitophagy and reactive oxygen species detoxification that prevents the mitochondrial damage triggering inflammasomes.
